Sep 19, 2022 · Sep 19, 2022. #1. My JD 990 tractor makes a clunking, binding type noise when in 4WD. It functions fine in 2WD mode. It still works in 4WD, but has the noise so I quit running it immediately. I am trying to remove the front. drive shaft to inspect where it enters the differential but my JD technical manual has no information about how to remove. Additionally, the 3050, which is an older John Deere model, is prone to need a transmission rebuild. Overall, transmission repairs are among the most common problems with John Deere tractors. May 16, 2023 · I have a John deere 990, 2003. Only about 600 hours on it. worked great until 2 days ago. Would crank just fine, but not catch. It grabbed a few times, but shut off in less then a few seconds. Acted like no fuel. Checked fuse box, fuel lines, changed both fuel filters, there is fuel in all lines including one leading to mechanical fuel pump. 2000 Jd 990. I was pulling a 9ft drag with my 990 in 4 wheel drive an noticed some noise from the front end. Four wheel drive stopped working now. This tracter has 175 hours on it. Never been on pavement an is clean. I dropped the oil in the front end only to find it is clean with no metal shavings. Pulled the drive shaft an no broken coupler.
